8/43 Fursdon chest tomb and railings
- about 18 metres north east of the
north east corner of the aisle of
the Church of St Michael and
All Angels
GV II
Chest tomb and railings. Late C19. Freestone chest, wrought iron railings.
Coped freestone chest in the medieval Gothic manner with the ridges roll-moulded in
the form of a cross. Inscription in applied metal lettering on the sides
commemorates George Fursdon, died 1873. The chest is surrounded by low barleysugar
iron railings with similar standards ; the standards are crowned with iron finials.
A good survival of a late C19 tomb based on medieval precedent.
