SK 93 SE OLD SOMERBY SCHOOL LANE

5/53 Manor House

G.V. II

Farm House; possibly C16 with C17, C18 and C19 alterations; coursed rubble
limestone with ashlar quoins and dressings. Slate roof with stone coped
gables with large finials, 2 ridges, one gable, one wall and one external
wall stack, all moulded. An H-plan, with one wing omitted, with partial
moat to north side of site. South front of house 2 storey with garret
having stone plinth; 5 bays with end pair as projecting gabled wings with
stacks to ridge at valley junctions. Central blocked doorway, now contains
C19 glazing bar sash, in C18 moulded stone surround with raised keystone,
flanked by single C19 doorways. Above door is further C19 glazing bar sash
in C18 moulded surround as door. Matching wings have C19 2 light glazing
bar sash with stone dividing mullion to ground floor, above single windows as
central first floor opening and to garret C17 single lights. To right Cl7
2 storey lean-to extension with sloping roof; to lower ground floor C17 single
light, to mezzanine floor 2 light stone surround with later casement window.
North rear front is much altered; 2 bay wing on left which does not project
has cavetto mullioned 2 light window to garret and remains of 2 similar
windows visible below. Projecting wing on right has large external stone
stack.
