GV II*

Anglican parish church, probably C13, altered and extended 1859 and
restored 1907 by C.E. Ponting. Rubble stone with stone slate
roofs, coped chancel gable and gabled stone slate hung west
bellcote. C13 nave and chancel, 1859 gabled addition to north of
nave with north porch, 1842 chancel north vestry. Nave has plain
pointed windows to west and south, of 1859, chancel has small C13
pointed window to north and south and small C13 lancet to south
wall right, all with crude hoodmoulds. C14 Decorated style 2-light
east window. C19 buttresses. Nave north addition has windows
similar to nave, one each end, one to north and gabled north porch.
Interior: original roofs to nave and chancel, arched braced collar
rafters, much heavier to nave. At nave west heavy cross beam with
curved uprights above supports bellcote. West gallery with Gothic
panelled front of 1859. In north addition C13 bowl font on C19
base. Chancel has deep splayed window reveals. c1859 armorial
glass in nave and north addition, c1884 chancel north and south
windows, east window 1907 by Kempe & Tower. Screen, stalls, pulpit
and organ of 1907. On gallery front hatchment of R. Smith of
Blackland, died 1691.
