Country house, probably hunting box, now offices. Late C18 with C19 and C20 additions.
Coursed rubble with stone dressings and hipped slate roofs with moulded ashlar stacks. 2 storeys
and attic. Several ranges forming large L-plan. Earlier front faces north-east. 9-window range of
1/1 sashes in moulded archtraves with keystones to 1st floor, and segmental arches with
keystones linked to storey band on ground floor. Central 3-window section projects slightly
and rises above the moulded cornice with further sashes, clockface and moulded open
pediment. Fronts to south are similar with 2 canted 2-storey bays and projecting porch with
balustraded top. INTERIOR. Fine C19 curving staircase in oval stairwell with ornamental
plasterwork ceiling. Marble fireplace and modillion cornice in council chamber and 6-panel
doors. A house of similar plan is shown on a map of 1787. Further infilling to the rear is shown
on a map of 1830.
