Originally one house, now subdivided, c1890 by Sir Reginald Blomfield and let for a time to
the American novelist Henry James. L-shaped building in Neo-Georgian style. Built of red
brick with stone dressings. Tiled roof with 3 large red brick chimneystacks. Entrance front has
3 dormers, external brick chimney stacks and angled porch in L wing with doorcase with frieze,
weatherhood with ½ ball finial and console brackets and parapet with 2 ball finials above. To
the right under pentice is an oval window, a 6-light window and doorcase with 6 panel door
and rectangular fanlight with oval design. Garden elevation has 7 windows in all and includes
2 increasingly projecting wings from left to right. 3 hipped dormers. 1st floor has 6, 12 pane
sashes flanked by shutters. Ground floor has 3 tripartite windows. End bay on right side has
tile hung 1st floor and half-glazed door flanked by built-in side lights. Attached brick 1 storey
wing. Interior has chequered marble floor to entrance hall, well staircase with turned
balustered, 2 panelled doors and brick fireplace with stone lintel and ceiling with Adam style
decoration.
