No 56 is actually the house attached to the shop at the comer, which is
known as No 21 MERMAID STREET (qv) and so from the point of view of the
Rate Office is considered as being in Mermaid Street, though it actually
has the number 56, High Street on it. 2 C18 houses. 3 storeys. 3 windows
in all. Ground floor painted brick, above hung with tiles, Eaves cornice
with modillions. Glazing bars intact. Doorway of No 56 in frame with
flat hood over.
