Description

LONG SUTTON CP STEPHEN'S HILL (north side)
ST42NE
6/193 Dovecote 40 metres south of Manor
House Farmhouse
17.4.59

GV II

Dovecote, now converted to garage. Probably medieval. Local lias stone cut and squared, double Roman clay tiled roof
between stepped coped gables with gabletted finials. Double square plan. Accommodated about 650 birds originally,
increased by about 130 when a dividing wall was introduced, possibly when the roof was renewed in C18. Presumably the
original doorways were on the north side, where are now C20 garage openings; lean-to on this side with garage doors:
small timber-framed opening with central iron bar high in south wall. (VCH vol III, 1974)
