Stables' House
II
House. Mid-late C18. Punch-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2-cell central-
entry plan with lateral outshut double-depth. 2 storeys. 2 bays + 1 lower bay.
Quoins. Set between 2 bays of windows is doorway with margin-dressed tie-stone
jambs and chamfered surround. Windows formerly of 3 lights with plain stone
surrounds. That to left has 24-pane Yorkshire sash, window above retains flat-
faced mullions. Coped gables with kneelers and stacks. Lower bay, to right,
has doorway left of window both with monolithic lintels dressed with false
voussoirs. Window above. Gable stack to right. Outshut to left with lean-to
roof and coping with kneeler. Rear: tall stairwindow (partly blocked) flanked by
square windows with Yorkshire sashes, that to ground floor left altered. Outshut,
to right, has Tudor-arched doorway with hollow-chamfered surround possibly C16
and re-used from the nearby Harewood Castle (q.v.). Left-hand return: (outshut)
quoins bays of windows.
Interior: doorway opens into stair-hall with framed-newel stair with gun-barrel
turned balusters.
