Description

LOWER HEYFORD OXFORD CANAL
SP4824
10/72 Bridge 1.7km N of Dashwood
Lock
- II

Canal bridge. Circa 1790. Coursed squared limestone rubble with some ashlar
dressings. Wide segmental arch has ashlar voussoirs springing from projecting
wedge-shaped imposts, which are linked to the projecting keyblock by a plain
ashlar hood. The solid parapet rises over the arch from square rubble piers, the
south-east and north-west parapets curving outwards. On the north face is a
cast-iron plate inscribed "207", but both keyblocks are inscribed "8", probably
representing an earlier numbering system.
