Tamworth Road Bridge,

Stop Lock on River Trent. Late C.18. Possibly Jessop (engineer). Dressed stone. Chamfered :1shlar low sided chamber and coping, with chamber walls sloping down from gates to lower level at centre.: of lock. Ashlar wing walls and coping. Pairs of top and bottom gates with rack and pinion gate paddles and wood balance beams. Later concreted lower quadrant with blue engineering heel grips only evident alteration. A stop lock was used to control "Hater flows, minimising water loss at times of low river levels; this is :1n unusual design and well preserved example. Bridge not included.
