Memorial. c1900. Raised shaft with sculptured pinnacled head,
with octagonal plinth, 1 octagonal and 2 circular steps,
raised York stone paved area, with granite curbs and raised
granite circular surround. Chamfered column on flat cyma recta
moulded plinth base, with incised lettered panels on each
major face, and cavetto moulded re-entrant corners. Column has
roll and carved capital with foliated corner volutes
supporting canopy with gables, pinnacled head carved with
poppyheads and 4 trefoil headed niches containing sculpted
figures of St John, St George, the Virgin and Child, and
Sarah, mother of Abraham.
This memorial commemorates George Pearson JP of
Brickendonbury, (d.1899) The east window in the Church of All
Saints and St John, Queen's Road (qv) was installed in his
memory. The monument also includes other family members
including his wife Sarah (d.1911). The cemetery south of the
churchyard was laid out late C19, and fronts Hagsdell Road as
its southern boundary. The Pearson Memorial is the principal
axial feature.
