Claremont and attached front area
railings

GV II

House. C17/early C18, partly rebuilt and refronted, front
dated 1752 by owner. Roughcast with brick gable stacks and
stone slate roof. Double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, attic and cellar; 2-window range. A
symmetrical parapeted front has a door surround with bracketed
pediment, and C20 door, 8/8-pane ground-floor and smaller
first-floor sashes, and a small flat-headed casement dormer;
small right-hand cellar hatch in the plinth.
Rear elevation has a right-hand gable.
INTERIOR: details include a cellar partly cut into the
bedrock, a double-pile roof with a right-hand linking section,
altered to the front, the rear roof is 4 bays with C17 ridge,
a rear right-hand room earlier with thick walls, and the front
right-hand room has an early C19 elliptical-arched recess.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached spear-headed iron railings and
gate to curved front area.
HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly a single-room house, extended to the
front and left, possibly at same time as No.100 (qv), with
which it shares a roof.
