Post office and telegraph office, now offices. 1868. By
Williams of London. Raised 1883, altered late C20. Ashlar.
Roof not visible behind parapet. Italianate style.
Plinth, first floor and main cornices, rusticated angle
pilasters, ground floor pilastered. 3 storeys plus basement; 9
x 7 windows. Regular fenestration. Windows are plain sashes,
those to ground floor renewed. Central pedimented window,
flanked on each side by 4 windows with cornices, all with sham
balustrades. Above, central window with cornice and flanking
windows with eared surrounds. Below, central blocked doorway,
flanked by plain windows with basement lights below. To right,
a set back entrance bay with door and overlight, and above, a
single window on each floor.
Rounded corner bay, to left, has 3 windows on each floor, with
window ornament identical to the fronts.
Left return, to Carlton Street, has similar fenestration.
Second floor has 4 windows only.
