Villa, now part of office. 1857, by Edward Walters; altered.
White-painted stucco on brick, slate roof. U-plan formed by
double-pile main range with two wings on north side; entrance
front formerly at west end, but orientation altered by C20
additions there, entrance front now on south side. Two storeys
with attic and basements, an asymmetrical 3-bay south facade
with string-courses carried round, and an emphasis on
tripartite openings: a slightly-projected rectangular porch
(formerly a window or French window) offset slightly right
(and approached by a long flight of steps) with glazed double
doors and a cornice on consoles, flanked by tall narrow sashed
windows; tripartite sashes above the porch; a 2-storey
3-window canted bay to the left, with a similar cornice to the
centre window; a shallow rectangular 2-storey bay to the
right, the ground floor channelled and with a similar cornice
over a single-light sash, and the first floor with tripartite
sashes. Glazing bars to ground floor windows only. Dentilled
cornice; mansard attic over right-hand end, with small
open-pedimented dormer. West (left) return wall has (inter
alia) a square tower (former porch) with corner pilasters,
cornice, balustraded parapet, and flagmast. C20 additions to
east and west. Rear: west wing, in similar style, has (inter
alia) a tripartite sash with segmental-pedimented cornice on
consoles. INTERIOR: axial entrance hall from former main
doorway at west end which is now covered but has fanlight with
radiating glazing bars and keystone; fine open-string
staircase; moulded plaster cornices with acanthus modillions;
dining room in west wing with C17 style panelling and
"inglenook" at north end.
