House. Probably early C16; altered late C16-early C17, 1936 and late C20.
Timber-framed with sandstone rubble infill, painted at front, and some brick; on
brick and sandstone rubble plinth. Plain tile roof. Brick stacks. Hallhouse
with central bay open; chimney, floor and stairs inserted late C16-early C17. 2
storeys, 3 bays. 1936 leaded metal casement windows in wood frames throughout.
Frame has small rectangular panels and arched braces on first floor of end
bays. Entrance front: 1936 moulded board door to central bay. Various windows
including ones in spandrels formed by braces. Hipped roof with gablets
(originally thatched, as shown in old photograph). Ridge stack to right of
centre, rebuilt late C20; C19 stack to rear left. Rear: C20 door to left bay; a
long window on each floor of central bay, and various others. Left return: wall
posts are markedly jowelled; small board door to left of centre. Interior:
rubblestone fireplace with chamfered timber lintel in central room; steep old
stair rises behind it. Old joists, in left-hand room chamfered and with lambs
tongue stops, and similarly treated spine-beam in central room. On first floor
the partition wall between left-hand rooms has long straight braces. Queen-post
roof trusses on cambered tie-beams; upper part of roof not inspected.
