The firm was established in 1865 but the buildings are ofkrca 1840/50.
The site consists of a three storeyed corner block with Newport Street
and adjoining to the South a house also of three storeys but with a
lower roof line. The fronts are of painted brick, gable end slate
roof with eaves cornice to the adjoining house and on the main block
a stucco cornice and blocking course with two solid pediments to the
High Street and one to Newport Street. The main block is articulated
above the ground floor by stucco pilasters. The curved corner has a
plain stucco panel. Six windows to High Street, six to Newport Street.
Four flat fronted bow windows to first floor on the High Street, three
lights each, glazing bars, pilasters, frieze and cornice, moulded sills.
One bay window of three lights later glazing bars to first floor Newport
Street. All other windows on main block, recessed, sash, later glazing
bars, plain stucco surrounds sash lower adjoining house has recessed
sash windows, some with glazing bars intact. Early C20 shop fronts.
