Mid 1770's origin, single narrow lock with single botom gate. Thick brick, and stone
dressed. By the bottom gate is a cantilevered footbridge, probably circa 1840,
consisting of cast iron girders with wood deck and low set hand rails to each end
raised a few inches above the lock edge to allow passage for a tow rope.
