4/61 Gate piers, gates and railings, 48m north of north front of Lyme Park. (Formerly listed as Entrance arch at Lyme Park)
GV II
Gatepiers, overthrow, gates, railings and corner piers: Gate piers late C17, overthrow and corner piers added mid C18 (perhaps by Sampson Brelsford), gates and railings 1821 by Lewis Wyatt. Gate piers, ashlar buff sandstone, square in plan on moulded plinth. Body has clasping rusticated quoins with semi-circular headed window of one-roomed lodge covered by iron grill (semi-circular headed door to rear). Projecting moulded cornice has stepped capstones supporting pair of lions couchant, looking in opposite directions. Piers joined by semi-circular overthrow with, at centre, a gadrooned urn with twisted centre, said to be lodges' chimney. Pair of rectangular iron gates below, spears with dogbars and some geometric work. Spear railings on sandstone base join gate piers to corner piers. Each has a square rusticated body on a moulded plinth and a moulded cornice above, supporting stepped capstone and spread eagle looking towards the house. The spear railings continue from the corner piers to the house.
