(Derived from "Arts Laboratory"). Embodies William Champion's brass foundry.
Clock Tower 1743. Roughly oblong block of rubble with black slag quoins to
south and hipped pantile roof. Three storeys, 4 windows, small pane fixed
lights in brick-lined cambered head openings. Three plain doors to ground
floor, one double. Second bay from right on upper floor has hoist opening
rising above eaves level into gabled dormer. Clock tower breaks forward to
left, rises to ridge level, has gabled pantile roof (saddleback type) and black
slag quoins, possibly formerly an annealing oven. The upper floor houses an
C18 bell and clock with octagonal external dial. Boarded up cambered head
opening to first floor. Plain door to ground floor. Links with 3 storey one
window building to west also with black slag quoins, lower part built of black
slag 'ashlar', west corners moulded.
