SS 21 NW MORWENSTOW

1/75 Gatehouse and barn about 3m east - of Marsland Manor and walls etween gatehouse and east front of Marsland Manor GV II*

Gatehouse, barn and walls between gatehouse and east front of Marsland Manor. Late C17, C19 alterations. Roughly-squared stone brought to course, slate roofs, some cob to barn at high level, gatehouse partly rebuilt in C19 brick. Gatehouse forms east side of forecourt to Marsland Manor (q.v.), stone rubble walls form north and south sides of forecourt and barn adjoins gatehouse at north end. Gatehouse has roof gabled at south end. Stone newel stair with polyphant stair light leads from forecourt to first floor of gatehouse. Gatehouse rebuilt in brick above old wood gateway beam. C19 2-light casement, 8 panes per light inserted off-centre in east wall above gateway. Tall stone walls forming north and south sides of forecourt each have doorways, that in the south wall leading to the garden south of Marsland Manor. Barn adjoining gatehouse at the north has gabled ends and large C17 timber doorframe on west front with slightly cambered head jointed to jambs. Doorway under slate canopy carried on timber brackets. Wood plank stable door. Ventilators to left and right of door, that to the right blocked. Upper two steps replaced in concrete blockwork.
