The Borough Bridge

Bridge. Dated 1737 on a stone plaque set into the parapet, builders Richard & Thomas Skelton, with C20 reinstatement of parts of the parapet and cutwaters. Built of brown brick in English bond with some repairs in red and black brick. Comprises seven round headed arches (three of them storm overflow arches) and a circular brick tunnel. Upstream side has triangular brick pilasters with tooled stone coping above and these are set in pointed cutwaters reinforced with C20 cement. Brick band. Downstream side has buttresses.
