Terraced houses. c.1830. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, roofs of Welsh or asbestos slate where visible; two storeys over basement, some houses having dormers in mansard roof, two windows each. The standard design is: heads of gauged brick to all openings; steps up to round-arched entrance with fanlight; ground-floor window round-arched, first-floor windows flat-arched; parapet; stacks to party walls; many houses have two rectangular recessed panels in the parapet. Features of individual houses are: nos 35 and 39 have panelled doors of original design, and sashes of original design to ground floor with intersecting tracery, and no 39 has an additional storey behind the parapet; no 41 has dormers in mansard roof; no 43 appears to be completely rebuilt with dormers in mansard roof; no 45 has fluted pilasters, sashes of original design, those to ground floor having intersecting tracery, and dormers in mansard roof; no 47 has fluted pilasters, panelled door of original design, sashes of original design, those to the ground floor having intersecting tracery, and dormers in mansard roof; no 49 has sashes of original design with intersecting tracery to the ground floor; no 51 has sashes of original design with radiating tracery to the ground floor and dormers in mansard roof; no 53 has fluted quarter-columns and sashes of original design, those to ground floor with intersecting tracery, and dormers in mansard roof; no 55 appears to have been completely rebuilt and has dormers in mansard roof; no 57 has dormers in mansard roof; no 59 has sashes of original design, those to ground floor with intersecting tracery, and dormers in mansard roof; no 61 has fluted quarter-columns and sashes of original design to ground floor with intersecting tracery; no 63 has fluted quarter-columns, decorative glazing to fanlight, sashes of original design with intersecting tracery to ground floor and dormers in mansard roof; nos 65-7 appear to have been completely rebuilt, no 65 in new brick, with an additional storey set back behind parapet; no 69 has fluted quarter-columns, sashes of original design, those to the ground floor having radiating tracery, and dormers in mansard roof; no 71 has relics of a C19 shop-front to ground floor with part of the glazing remaining and, most obviously, the ornate stucco brackets either side of the fascia; it is of one-window range with sashes of original design; no 73 has dormers in mansard roof; no 75 has fluted pilasters, sashes of original design; no 77 has fluted pilasters, sashes of original design to the ground floor and dormers in mansard roof; no 79 has rendered parapet and dormers in mansard roof; no 81 has fluted pilasters, panelled door of original design and sashes of original design; no 83 has fluted pilasters, decorative glazing to fanlight, panelled door of original design, sashes of original design to ground floor and dormers in mansard roof. Cast-iron railings to steps and area, with spearhead finials and urn standards, to all except nos 43, 55, 65, 67, 71 and 73. (Historians' file, English Heritage London Division).
