Nonconformist Chapel in Manchester

GV II

Cemetery chapel. 1879. Coursed sandstone rubble, slate roofs
with red cockscomb ridge tiles. Gothic style. Nave on
north-south axis with south-east tower incorporating porch,
and north-east vestry. Short nave has angle buttresses,
2-centred arched window in south gable wall, cusped
single-light window in east wall; 4-stage tower to left, the
stages successively set back and the top stage octagonal with
a short spire, has 2-centred arched doorway with chamfered
surround and gablet, corner pilasters above this level, small
lancet to short 3rd stage, louvred 2-light belfy windows to
the top stage and pseudo-gargoyles to the corners. Low gabled
vestry has angle buttresses, cusped lancet in gable wall, and
chimney rising from junction with nave. With Church of England
chapel (q.v.) and Roman Catholic chapel (q.v.), forms part of
intact set of 3 cemetery chapels, of varied form but matching
style.
