Adjoining No 2 Market Street (qv). Originally a C17 building with later
alterations. 2 storeys and attics, red brick, Dutch gable end to North, 3
gabled dormers, pantile roof, 5 1st floor double hung sash windows with
glazing bars, ground floor C18 or early C19 bowed shop fronts. Recently
rebuilt, the front is facsimile retaining the shop fronts (1 rebuilt to match
the other 2). Part of very important group with King's Head Hotel and No 8.

Newmarket forms a most important central group including the buildings
around and in the "island".
