The building is constructed of brick. It is three storeyed with three sash windows, at first and second floor level, with glazing bars and gauged flat arches. It has a slate roof with an eaves soffit. It has a modern glass and metal commercial front at ground floor.
All the listed buildings in the Market Place on the north side form a group.

North Walsham is a medieval market town that grew wealthy from the trade of wool and cloth. The town was largely rebuilt following a fire in 1600 but remained a significant market centre into the Industrial Revolution.
Number 43 is likely to date from the late-C18 or early-C19. It is depicted on the Tithe Map of 1842 as a small rectangular building with its long axis facing on to Market Place. It was recorded at that time as a house and shop owned and occupied by John Riches. The building is similarly mapped on the 1885 first edition Ordnance Survey map.
