Retaining wall to highway and
flights of steps

GV II

Retaining wall and steps. 1829-30. Coursed rubble stone and
brick. Approx 1.5m high the wall runs southwards from outside
No.72 (qv) to outside No.34 (qv), and has flights of
flag-topped steps up to the highway at intervals. The wall was
created as part of the gradient improvement works carried out
following the advice of Thomas Telford in 1829.
