THE DOWN(East Side)Cemetery Lodge

1854-55.Probably by C.E.Davis of Bath.Gothic.Coursed and dressed stone.Tiled roof with coped verges and crested ridge.External staggered stack with free standing shaft to west gable.A group of three trefoil headed lancets in shaped rebates within a raised drip, on left side.Two lancets to right.Shouldered lintel to doorway below open tower porch to right of centre,above left hand pedestrian entrance to cemetery.The pedestrian entrance has a pointed arch within shallow arch with ferns in spandrels to south.Two lights to each side in chamber above.The south west pier of porch adjoins the north gatepier.The north west corner of the lodge is chamfered on ground floor and corbelled on first floor with a pointed arch rising to a death's head.Two stone chimney stacks with paired octagonal shafts to rear.
