Grotto on north-west side of Carr

GV II

Garden grotto. Early C19, restored late C20. Limestone rubble,
reinforced with concrete and partly covered with earth. In the
form of a curving tunnel with a triangular-headed entrance to
the west, with 2 smaller openings on the south side and 2
further openings on the north side. East entrance has concrete
segmental arch. Probably part of the garden design of the
nearby Carr Bank (qv).
