Large house, with early C18 facade built on to an earlier building, dated
on rear gable, 1688. The facade is of ashlar, with plinth and moulded eaves
cornice. 3 storeys, irregularly spaced bays, with central door in Gibbs
surround, with pediment and ornate keystone. 12-light sash windows have projecting
architraves and ornate keystones. Gable walls and rear are of coursed rubble.
The original house was a T-plan but there is now a late C18 and C19 wing
alongside and larger than the arm of the T. 3 storeys, with projecting gabled
wing to right with angle quoins and paired sash windows on ground floor,
inserted in earlier opening and so with hoodmould over. On lst floor, a
single light window with hoodmould end in the apex, the datestone and initials
C over W.B. Gable is coped and has large stepped stones. Left of the wing
are 2 bays with C18 openings - French window and door to ground floor, 2
sashes above all with incised keystones, and a single light in the attic
storey with chamfered timber lintel. Later wing projects to the right, and
is of 2 storeys with a single 2-light casement in the ground floor - beyond
it a later part of late Cl9 rusticated rubble, with various openings with
relieving arches. Gable axial stacks on main range. Inside the hall is one
fine C18 panelled room with lugged architraves to door and window surrounds,
plain dado and plaster eaves cornice.
