NY 15 SE HOLME EAST WAVER Raby

6/24 Barn adjoining to the
north of Raby Cote

Barn now woodstore and washhouse. Late C17. Whitewashed rendered clay walls
repaired with brick. Sandstone slate roof. Single storey, 3 bays. 2 plank
doors behind C20 large glazed porch. Shippon of brick to right incorporates
tracery sculptured panels from Holme Cultram Abbey. Interior has 3 pairs of
upper crucks. See Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian &
Archaeological Society, new series, xiv, pp279-80. Further brick extension to
right is not of interest.
