GV II

House, now shop. Mid C18, perhaps re-fronted later, altered
C19 and C20. Sandstone rubble, rendered and lined, with ashlar
dressings. Slate roof with chimney on right-hand gable.
Double-depth plan.
3 storeys above a cellar and 4 bays, with the fourth bay,
whose back wall is of handmade brick, standing over the
entrance to the yard of the New Inn, Market Street (qv) All
the windows have plain surrounds (mostly enlarged) and sashes
without glazing bars. The second bay on the first floor has a
pair of linked windows. The ground floor has a recent shop
front.
INTERIOR: behind the median wall is a dogleg staircase with a
closed string and 5 turned balusters for every 2 treads. The
newels are also turned and there is a ramped handrail.
