'EB 1640' on dated stone plaque in rear C19 elevation. Formerly
a coaching inn built shortly after 1685 with C19 street facade.
Two storeys with cartway entrance to courtyard, and rear wings.
Local brick, rendered to the street. Substantial internal
timber-framed trusses. Steeply pitched slate roof. Three C19
brick stacks. Five horizontal sliding sash dormer windows with
glazing bars and flat roofs. Five, paired hung sash windows
with common architraves at first floor and two similar windows
flanking main entrance to north-west with modern door and flat
canopy. Two plank doors with glazed lights to cartway.
Inserted door to south-east (Fairfax). Home of Thomas
Bloodworth surveyor for the C18 enclosures.
