Farmhouse. Late C17, enlarged early C18 with later alterations and additions.
Rubble, stone dressings, brick, 2-span slate roof with raised coped verges and
kneelers, gable stacks, double Roman tiled roofs to additions to sides. Passage
through centre of house dividing front and rear blocks, symmetrical front and
rear; front now at rear (south). South elevation has 3 storeys and 3 windows,
ground floor has two 16-pane sashes in plain surrounds, central porch with hipped
roof has 4-panelled and glass door, first floor has two 3-light casements with
chamfered mullions and surrounds, central C20 2-light casement with chamfered
surround, 2nd floor has 3 single light casements in chamfered surround, also C20;
quoins; 2-storey block attached to each side, to right with wide timber lintel
and small wooden-framed window with shutters, brickwork below, to left with
3-light casement with chamfered wooden mullions, unglazed, brickwork below window.
Left return has 2-light casement with wooden frame and mullion at upper level of
addition; 2 small C20 attic windows, stepped stonework under verges, single
storey lean-to covering yard, 3 plank and batten doors and strap hinges, 2 with
timber lintels, central with segmental stone head. Right return has 2-light
casement at first floor left, 6-pane sash with timber lintel at ground floor
right, addition to left has garage door with upper loading door, single storey
addition to right. Rear has two 3-light casements with hollow-chamfered mullions,
central door replaced by C20 window, first floor has three 2-light casements as at
ground floor, all with hood mould and relieving arch except 2nd floor three 2-light
casements under eaves; addition to right has C19 door in chamfered frame.
Interior: chamfered and stopped beams, former dairy to rear with trap door to
cheese room above, first floor rear windows have loop catches, iron stanchions,
hollow-chamfered mullions and splayed reveals. 3-bay front roof, tie-beam,
collar, one row of purlins, plated yoke and ridge purlin.
