Hamswell House

Barn. Late C15/early C16, C17, Clg and later alterations. Limestone rubble
with stone dressings and quoins, double Roman tiled roof with raised coped verges
and finials, stepped stonework under verges. Rectangular plan. West elevation
has two 2-light windows with ovolo mullions and surround, cornice and leaded
lights, probably installed at time of remodelling of Hamswell House (q.v.),
central steps to door with 4-centred arched head and chamfered surround, C20 door.
North elevation has 2 weathered buttresses, rubble lean-to with corrugated iron
roof, south elevation has door in chamfered stone surround, and glass lean-to,
east elevation has C20 garage doors and loading door above in ashlar surround.
Interior: north wall has remains of raised cruck blade, walls about one metre
thick; 4-bay roof with tie-beams, collar and upper collar, 2 rows of purlins and
ridge purlin.
