Late C18. (The house of the Mayor of Casterbridge in Hardy's novel of that
name). Burnt grey brick with red brick dressings. Plinth has chamfered stone
capping. 3 storey 3 window front set back from main frontage line. Very
fine late C18 doorway with round- headed opening with fluted archivolt. Transome
has guilloche enrichment. Fanlight. Moulded console brackets with beading and
foliage enrichment. Paterae to entablature blocks above brackets. Dentils
to cornice and pediment. Swag and paterae carving in tympanum. Moulded eaves
cornice with fluting and paterae. Ground floor windows and central 1st floor
window are round headed with stone keys and imposts. Original rainwater heads
and down pipes.
