Row of 3 small town houses. c.1835-40, altered; rebuilding in progress at No.57. Red brick in Flemish bond (No.57 painted white at 1st floor, No.58 painted red, and No.59 tuck-pointed) with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, with back extensions (those at Nos.57 and 58 joined), and through-lobbies to the left of No.57 and between Nos.58 and 59. Two storeys over cellars, 2+2+3 bays; with a plinth, 1st floor sill-band, plain frieze and moulded gutter cornice. The doorways, coupled in the centre of Nos.57 and 58, and to the right at No.59, have moulded architraves with dentilled cornices on consoles, and set-in steps to the doors; the lobby doorways, to the left at No.57 and in the centre between Nos.58 and 59, have chamfered surrounds and small cornices. Each house has one window at ground floor and 2 above but No.59 also has a blind window over the lobby doorway to the left, all (except this) with altered glazing and those at ground floor with raised sills and wedge lintels; cellar windows in the plinth. Large linear multi-flue common chimney stacks. Rear: No.57 taken down at rear for rebuilding and INTERIOR mostly stripped down to brick, but front parlour retains window case with shutters; otherwise not inspected. The item is part of a formerly complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class town houses in this street.
