2 shops with living accommodation above. Pre-1500
timber-framed building with c1840 refronting. Front elevation
weatherboarded with tiled roof. 2 storeys 4 windows 2 parallel
ranges. Moulded eaves cornice. 4 widely spaced sashes with
marginal glazing and panels below. Unusual shopfront with 6
pilastered Corinthian columns and 2 shopfronts with 2
round-headed arches with Prince of Wales feathers decorations.
Side elevation tile-hung. Rear elevation has projecting gable
with collar beams and through purlins.
Internally the 1st floor shows a 4-bay timber-framed range
fronting the High Street and 1 large bay separately framed
behind. Internal mullioned windows and internal daub wall. 4
plain square crown posts with 2 head braces to collar beam and
dragon ties. Sans-purlin roof with collar beam. 1 upright post
has a chamfer and lamb's tongue step very similar to No 65
High Street. Deep jowls to upright posts. 1 collar beam has
chamfer and run out stop. It is possible that this building
was the original Cart or Market hall and more possible that
the large framed bay to the rear was the earlier building.
