House, now part of a hotel and restaurant, Nos 45 & 47 (qv).
C17; refronted and altered mid C19 with C20 alterations. No.49
to the left is painted brick with pantile roof hipped to left
and square brick stack to rear on limestone rubble base.
Double-depth plan. 2 storeys; 2-window range. All 3 windows
are large casements, two C19 to first floor at eaves level,
C20 one to ground floor left is under flat brick arch. Below
right-hand window is a C20 glazed door under wide gauged brick
arch, partly filled, and to right is a segmental arch to a
wide planked C20 door.
No.51 to right is painted limestone rubble with steep-pitched
pantile roof. Single storey; 2-window range. To left is wide
carriageway with C20 flat arch; to right a C20 shop-front and
to centre a very small slit window shaped like a bottle, above
eye-level cut from a single stone.
INTERIOR: room to front of No.49 has chamfered beams to
quartered ceiling, C20 oak beam to restored open fire to rear
left which has chamfered stone jambs, bread oven to rear left,
small niche to right and another to front left. A short
passage to right, leading to a rear room, has a staircase
enclosed by stud wall rising from back to front between the
fireplace and doorway. The rear room has an open fireplace
backing onto that of front room. First floor, part of the
hotel, not seen.
