Tower house, probably for use of prior of Thetford. Early C15.
Burnt out and abandoned 1935, restored by Department of
Environment. Flint with ashlar dressings and some red brick.
Late C20 temporary roof. Rectangular first-floor hall plan.
Fenestration of slit lights with ashlar jambs. Doorway to
south formerly arched; it retains meurtriere hole. South-west
corner formerly with a tower extending the winder staircase in
this corner to roof level. Rear with external stepped stack
serving ground-floor and first-floor fireplaces. To right of
stack is a garderobe exit shute serving first floor only.
First-floor window holes marginally larger. INTERIOR: no
floors survive. First-floor fireplace with herringbone brick
and tile.
