Row of 4 shops. Mid C17 origins with alterations of c1820.
Brick with stucco dressings; slate roof with brick stacks.
Georgian style. 2 storeys; 6-window range. Wide eaves; No.10
has brick pilasters with stucco capitals. Four C20 shopfronts.
1st floor has windows with wedge lintels, incised lines
suggesting fielded panels; 2 windows to left end have 4-pane
sashes, one shortened; one window has C20 casement, one has
16-pane sash, one has 12-pane sash, and shortened window to
right end has 4-pane sash. 2nd floor has 2 windows to left end
and one to right end with wedge lintels over 4-pane sashes,
others have rubbed brick flat arches, one blocked, one with
8-pane sash and one with C20 casement. End stacks and 3
cross-axial stacks. Rear has varied wings and extensions.
Although altered, an interesting example of early C19 town
development, since the original mid C17 range was raised and
extended forward across former forecourts or front gardens
c1820.
