(Formerly Listed as:

(Westerholme). Doniet House)

GV II

House. Mid C19 including C18 part to rear. Stucco with Ham
Hill stone dressings, slate roof with stone copings, moulded
kneelers and stacks to gable ends. Double-depth plan with
original service extensions to front and rear left, and a long
wing to the rear right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; virtually symmetrical 3-window range to
main block, with narrow window inserted to left-of-centre, on
the first floor. Pilasters to moulded kneelers. All windows
are 6/6-pane horned sashes in eared architraves with bracketed
sills, except the inserted one to the first floor which is
vertically 2/2-panes. To the centre is a narrow set-forward
gable with stone pilasters and coping, which has a large
projecting porch with an entablature supported by
square-section columns with segmental arches between, and a
window above. The right return (south) has 2 windows to the
first floor, the left one is blind, and one to the ground
floor, all in plain surrounds. To the left of the front
facade, the single-storey service wing steps forward to the
street, the wall sweeps up to the house with a door to the
house-keeper's room facing toward the porch (west). The rear
of the main block has a conservatory with margin panes to
2/2-pane sashes, and a loggia to the right rear wing, facing
east.
INTERIOR: The large entrance hall has an open-well open-string
staircase, turned balusters, swept mahogany rail and
curtail-step. A passage to service wing ends with 2 curved
doors, one to the housekeeper's room, the other to a rear
kitchen which has an C18 stone fireplace with a patent
spit-turner, indicating that this was once part of the older
Doniet House (qv) attached to the rear.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Spearhead railings with urn finials, with
a gate, enclose the forecourt. Attached to the north-west
corner of the house is approx 2m of a low limestone rubble
wall or plinth with c1860 spearhead railings. These are
attached to gate piers to Doniet House (qv) with moulded
plinths, chamfered corners, moulded cornices and shallow swept
caps with balls, flanking double wrought-iron gates with plain
rails and a horizontal scroll band along the middle. The
railings to the right are c1800 spearhead and sweep down in
steps to a matching gate, and meet a high rubblestone wall
attached to the north-west corner of Acacia House (qv).
