SK1109SE ST JOHN STREET 1094-1/8/154 (South West side) 05/02/52 Wall to front and right return of garden to No.20 (Formerly Listed as: ST JOHN'S STREET (South West side) Fragment of Friary Wall abutting No 20 on N side)

Wall and gate. Late C13 and C18, gate late C19. Dressed stone with repairs and rebuilding in brick; tile roof to gate. Wall is attached to No.20 and curves round angle, ending in gate in gabled portal with gabled roof, pointed arch with tile impost and hood, and tile cornice. The wall is believed to be part of the boundary wall of the Franciscan Friary, founded 1229 and rebuilt 1291, and dissolved in 1538.
