GV II

Headstone to Mary Southam and her daughter Mary, both d 1682.
Late C17. Limestone ashlar. Broad stone has shaped head,
inscribed decoration and well-cut inscription with partly
buried verses. A good survival.

a daughter of abraham doth ly returned to the dust
her Life was hid in Christ her God in whom was all her trust
who wisely wrought whilst it was day
and with her Spirit did wach and pray
to heare Gods Word attentive was her care
her heart was full of Godly feare
A Gods Angel she honored those
that taught his Word and did his Will disclose
persons vile her heart abhor'd
and reverenc'd those that feer'd the Lord
Sarah to her husband a deere Mother
unto her children desolved but not dead

Spectators heed death's quick persute
First pres't the tree and then ye fruit
yet his attempts are all but vaine
For tree and fruit shall springe againe
indust shee sleeps now freed from feeres
and shall be when her Christ apeeres
