The Black Horse Public House

GV II

Public house. Late C17. Coursed squared limestone rubble to
right, coursed squared limestone to left. Stone slate roof;
one ridge stack rebuilt in artificial stone.
3 gables to front. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window range. First
floor has 3 late C18 6/6-pane sashes in moulded timber
architraves with projecting cills to left, 2 late C18/early
C19 three-light timber casements in moulded timber surrounds
with projecting cills and exposed timber lintels to right. Two
2-light leaded casements in gables to right with exposed
timber lintels, one ovolo-moulded stone mullion and transom
window with leaded upper lights in gable to left.
Ground floor has two late C18/early C19 8/8-pane sashes in
timber-lined reveals with timber cills to right, 2 similar
2/2- 6/6- 2/2-pane triple sashes with timber mullions to
centre, one similar 2/2-pane window to left. All ground floor
windows have exposed timber lintels, that to left continued
over C20 oak plank door with hand-forged strap hinges in plain
reveal. To centre right C20 oak plank door with glazed panel
has moulded stone hood on shaped brackets. Moulded string over
first floor left and over window in gable to left.
Difference in materials and flush quoins to first floor right
of range to left indicate two separate builds, that to right
slightly later. INTERIOR not inspected.
