Description

LYDNEY CHURCH ROAD
SO 60 SW
(east side)
7/93 Monument to
DOROTHY BERRO---
in the churchyard
c8m north of north
corner of aisle chapel
of the church of
St Mary
- II*
Chest tomb. Early C17. Sandstone. Thick incised top with moulded edge, plain
inscription panels, moulded base, part sunk at time of survey (September 1983).
At east end, in crude inscription, DOROTHY BERRO--- his daughter d 1632, and
on the ledger slab the name LONGDON with date 17--. This is an important monument
by virtue of its early date, and the naive lettering in some of the remaining
inscriptions: the tomb may date from the very beginning of the C17.
