SO 61 SE NEWNHAM RUDDLE (A48 west side)

Farmhouse. Early C17. Brick and sandstone rubble, plain tile roof.
Formerly 3-room plan with projecting stair turret at back; later front addi-
tions include 2-storey block, left. Main stack is right of centre. Road
front steep gabled, 3-storeys and part basement. Windows include two 2-light
casements under simple drip-stones, and 3-light casements at first floor and
to gables. Former main entrance, plank door in recess, right, not now used;
return gable, south front, left, in three storeys, one-windowed, 3-light
casements over late C20 pair of doors. Solid oak newel stair through two
floors in semi-circular well to square turret; remains of muntin and panel
screen at first landing. Chamfered and stopped beams.
