School. 1878 by Clapton Rolfe. English bond brick with stone dressings and bands, tile hanging and some timber-framing with herringbone brick nogging. Old plain -tile roofs have ridge cresting. Tall brick ridge and external stacks have pilaster strips and oversailing tops. Complex plan. Domestic Gothic style of Street and Butterfield. 2 storeys and attic; 1-1-1-2 bays. Gabled first bay has 6-light wood mullioned and transomed window. Wood casement lights with glazing bars throughout. Tile hanging to first floor and gable. 10-light first-floor window has brackets between each light; single lights to return sides. Gable has pierced and decorated barge boards. 3-storey D-plan tower in angle. Statue of Edward VI with brick and stone pedestal and canopy. Second floor has 5 single lights with continuous stone transom and bands. Parapet and steep hipped roof with iron finial. Narrow third bay has deeply-recessed C20 glazed door. First floor has timber framing with moulded and carved bressumer, and 3 small lights. Large gabled right range has moulded brick plinth. Ground floor has two 2-light stone mullioned windows with 2 transoms. Moulded string course. First floor has 4 trefoiled lancets with continuous hood mould. Gable has large round window and band of terracotta ornament. Single-storey 6-bay class room block on right has mullioned and transomed windows of 4 trefoiled lights. First bay incorporates plank door. Gabled sixth bay projects. 5-light window has 2 transoms and moulded relieving arch with basket-weave brickwork. Main roof above has small round fleche. Left return side of main range has large external stack on right. Gabled range on right has two C20 ground-floor windows. Moulded string course. First floor has 4 trefoiled lancets and continuous hood mould. Attic has 5-light casement, relieving arch with basket-weave brickwork and hood mould. Recessed centre has timber framing to upper part, with 6 small lights. Round stair turret in single on right has 2-light window with 2 transoms. Small gabled range to left corner.
