Description


MELBECKS SHOREGILL SD 99 NW 14/115 Shoregill Head Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Date 1679. Rubble on boulder plinth, stone slate roof. 2 storeys with rear outshut. 2 first floor windows. Crude quoins. Doorway in right corner with chamfered quoined surround and triangular soffit to lintel bearing recessed panel with date, hood-mould over, C20 4-panel door. Double-chamfered mullioned windows, original on ground floor and under hood-moulds; on first floor later, taller mullioned windows under weather courses. Ground floor: 3-light, blocked single light, fire window, 2-light originally 4-light. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, stacks at left end, and centre. Interior: in right-hand room 2 ceiling beams chamfered and stopped. Wooden stairs in rear outshut. Outbuildings at left not of special interest.
