SU 74 SE BENTLEY A31 MAIN ROAD

4/26 Ash Cottage

House. Late C18. Brick walls and tile roof. Symmetrical front (south) of
2 storeys, 3 windows. Hipped roof. Walls of English bond, rubbed flat arches,
plinth. Sashes. Doric doorcase with 'Greek' mouldings, pediment, entablature,
½-columns (fluted), panelled reveals, 6-panelled (2 top glazed) door. There are
rear extensions of the C18 and mid C19; between these and the front part there
remains (as an inner wall) the timber frame (being the rear wall) of a former
house replaced by the present main unit. Inside the main unit are the original
staircase, doorcases and doors, and fire place.
