NY 88 SE BIRTLEY LOWSHIELD GREEN

5/24 Byre, granary (and) Wall
c20 yards north-east of
Lowshield Green Farmhouse

Byres and granary. C18 and early C19. Dressed stone and random rubble with
Welsh slate roof. L-shaped. 2-storey front block with single-storey range
to left and rear. Ground floor of 2-storey range is C18 and has 4 segmental
arches to byres, left one now blocked and 2nd partly covered by early C19
outside stone stairs to granary with stable-type door in alternating-block
surround and two ½ slatted windows. Single-storey bay to left has one plank
door and is the end of the rear range. This has 3 plank doors, in alternating-
block surrounds, and ventilation slits.

Gabled roof with flat coping.

Stockyard in front of 2-storey byre has random rubble wall with ridged coping;
and mounting block in front.
